Dennoch planen laut aktuellen Umfragen ca. 40% bei den Landtagswahlen am 6. September mit der AfD eine Partei zu wählen\, die die liberale Demokratie ablehnt. Wie passt die positive Sicht auf Demokratie mit der Zustimmung einer autoritär auftre­tenden Partei zusammen? Welches Verständnis von Demokratie herrscht in Sachsen-Anhalt vor? Welche gesellschaft­spoli­tischen\, demografischen\, sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Entwick­lungen sind ursächlich für solche Sichtweisen? \nIn einer gemein­samen Veranstaltung mit dem Leipziger Else-Frenkel-Brunswik-Institut für Demokratieforschung (EFBI) nehmen wir am Tag nach der Wahl eine einge­hende Betra­chtung der Situation in Sachsen-Anhalt und des Stands der Demokratie in Ostdeutschland vor. Damit möchten wir den Blick auf die tiefer­liegenden Ursachen des Wahlergeb­nisses lenken und zu dessen Einordnung beitragen. \nAm Gespräch nehmen der Direktor des EFBI und Co-Leiter der Leipziger Autori­tarismus Studien Oliver Decker\, der Religion­ssozi­ologe und Co-Autor des Sachsen-Anhalt-Monitors Gert Pickel sowie die Soziologin Katja Salomo\, die zu den sozialen und demografischen Ursachen recht­sex­tremer Ansichten insbesondere im ländlichen Raum forscht\, teil. SUMMARY:Public Discussion "Russia and the West" – Save the date!
DESCRIPTION:The recurring discus­sions about peace talks with Moscow overlook one central problem. Although Russia’s military and economic situation is becoming increas­ingly difficult\, the Kremlin shows no willingness to make peace. Putin is still aiming for victory\, and there is no end to Russia’s war of aggression in sight. \nFor Europe\, it remains essential to support Ukraine so that it is strong enough to make Russia end the war. At the same time\, European countries need to strengthen their defence capabil­ities and improve their security cooper­ation so that\, in the future\, they can ensure their own security even without US support. Ukraine will be a central part of Europe’s future security architecture. \nAlthough it is impos­sible to know when the fighting will end\, Europe must already prepare for what comes after­wards. Without funda­mental change in Russia\, a ceasefire will neither change the repressive nature of the regime nor limit Moscow’s ambitions\, which go far beyond Ukraine. \nAgainst this backdrop\, the Center of Liberal Modernity is holding its annual public discussion “Russia and the West” on October 14. This year’s subtitle is “Europe’s Security and Long-Term Russia Strategy”. The event follows our annual expert conference held on the same day. \nThe evening debate will focus on the main elements of a future European policy towards Russia: Do we need to prepare for a long-term conflict with Russia while also offering the possi­bility of cooper­ation under certain condi­tions? What demands should Europe make of Russia’s political and economic elites\, and what means does it have to give these demands real weight? How can the West influence political devel­op­ments within Russia? \nDetails and the programme are forthcoming!
