SUMMARY:Einladung zum Post-Wahl Frühstück: Polen hatte die Wahl
DESCRIPTION:  \nSehr geehrte Damen und Herren\, \n\nwohin wird Polen sich in den nächsten Jahren entwickeln? Die Entscheidung am 1. Juni zwischen dem pro-europäischen\, zukun­ft­sori­en­tierten Rafał Trzaskowski (53) und dem EU-Skeptiker Karol Nawrocki (42)\, wird von entschei­dender Bedeutung für die Zukunft des Landes sein. \nGewinnt Ersterer erhält die Regierung Donald Tusks den Verbün­deten\, den sie braucht\, um den von der PiS betriebenen Umbau demokratischer Insti­tu­tionen rückabzuwickeln und die Rolle Polens in der EU weiter zu stärken. Gewinnt Nawrocki\, der Wunschkan­didat des PiS-Vorsitzenden Jarosław Kaczyński\, wird hier mit weiteren Blockaden zu rechnen sein. \nSchon die erste Runde der polnischen Präsi­dentschaftswahl am 18.05.2025 hielt einige Überraschungen bereit. Insgesamt dreizehn Kandi­daten bewarben sich um die Nachfolge Andrzej Dudas\, der nach zwei Amtszeiten nicht mehr antreten konnte. Zwar lösten die beiden Favoriten\, der liberal-konser­v­ative Warschauer Bürger­meister Rafał Trzaskowski und der nation­alkon­ser­v­ative Leiter des Instituts für Nationales Gedenken Karol Nawrocki\, mit 31\,4 % bzw. 29\,5 % der Stimmen das Ticket für die Stichwahl\, ansonsten kam einiges anders als erwartet: Trzaskowskis Vorsprung vor Nawrocki schmolz auf weniger als zwei Prozent – kurz vor der Wahl waren noch mehr als vier Prozent voraus­gesagt worden. Auf den Plätzen drei und vier landeten der recht­slib­ertäre Sławomir Mentzen (14\,81 %) und der offen recht­sradikale Grzegorz Braun (6\,34%) und erhielten zusammen über 20 Prozent der Wähler­stimmen. Mentzen und der Linke Adrian Zandberg (4\,86%) waren die erfol­gre­ichsten Kandi­daten bei den unter 30-jährigen – mehr als die Hälfte stimmte für einen der beiden Kandidaten. \nDie entschei­dende Frage ist nun\, wem es gelingt im zweiten Wahlgang\, nicht nur die eigenen Wähler zu mobil­isieren\, sondern auch Unentschlossene sowie die Wähler der ausgeschiedenen Kandi­daten zu überzeugen. Kann Rafał Trzaskowski die Wähler der linken und zentris­tischen Kandi­daten gewinnen? Wird es Nawrocki tatsächlich gelingen\, die Wähler von Braun und Mentzen zu überzeugen in der zweiten Runde für ihn zu stimmen? Noch ist das alles offen. SUMMARY:Keeping Georgia on the EU-Enlargement Agenda: Visit of Georgian Civil Society Representatives to Brussels
DESCRIPTION:Background \nAs Georgia faces its most serious political crisis since indepen­dence\, the country is rapidly sliding (or has already slid) into author­i­tar­i­anism under the current ruling party – the Georgian Dream. The adoption of repressive laws—including legis­lation inspired by the Russian “foreign agents” model\, American FARA\, new media regula­tions\, and new laws curbing the human rights\, including freedom of speech and assembly—signals an open crackdown on civil society\, media\, political opposition\, and pro-European voices. This backsliding threatens not only the country’s democ­ratic fabric but also its European future. This also firmly places Georgia in the Russian orbit. \nIn this critical moment\, a group of leading Georgian civil society repre­sen­ta­tives will visit Brussels to brief key EU insti­tu­tions\, political groups\, and partners about the situation on the ground. The delegation\, organized by the Center of Liberal Modernity brings together diverse expertise and networks\, unified by a shared commitment to democ­ratic values and the defense of Georgia’s European path. \nPurpose \nThe purpose of the visit is to provide EU stake­holders with a timely and accurate briefing on the deepening political crisis in Georgia\, marked by the ruling party’s author­i­tarian drift and escalating repression against independent voices.
