Stresstest for Democracy: <\/strong>Round table series on the crisis and resilience of Western democracies<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Liberal western democ\u00adracies are under pressure. From within, they are threatened by social, cultural and political polar\u00adi\u00adsation, which populist and extremist forces are building on. The trust in democ\u00adratic insti\u00adtu\u00adtions is declining along with the ability of democ\u00adracies to deal effec\u00adtively with challenges such as climate change, digital\u00adi\u00adsation and global migration. The Covid-19 pandemic and the Ukraine war have also been a resilience test for liberal democ\u00adracies. Furthermore, they are challenged from the outside by a new systemic compe\u00adtition with author\u00adi\u00adtarian powers, many of which have also been trying to exert their influence by inter\u00adfering into domestic affairs. In short, the democ\u00adratic order in estab\u00adlished democ\u00adracies is increas\u00adingly being put to the test, and it is unclear how this stresstest will turn out for Western democracies.<\/p>\n

In our discussion series, we take a look at some key countries: What is going on in France, the USA, Poland and Hungary, in Israel and the European Union? How can the devel\u00adop\u00adments in these countries be explained? What is trans\u00adferable to Germany, what is different here and why? And what paths can be found out of the multiple crises?<\/p>\n
