Democ\u00adracies struggle to prevent financial crises, energy shortages, climate change, and war\u2014so how can we look ahead with confidence?<\/p>\n In his latest book, The Lost Future: And How to Reclaim It<\/em> (Yale University Press, 2023), Jan Zielonka argues that democracy\u2019s short-sight\u00adedness is a key reason for political insta\u00adbility in our increas\u00adingly inter\u00adcon\u00adnected world. Govern\u00adments remain confined within national borders and focused on the short-term interests of today\u2019s voters\u2014often with devas\u00adtating conse\u00adquences for future gener\u00ada\u00adtions.
