Background<\/strong><\/p>\n

As Georgia faces its most serious political crisis since indepen\u00addence, the country is rapidly sliding (or has already slid) into author\u00adi\u00adtar\u00adi\u00adanism under the current ruling party \u2013 the Georgian Dream. The adoption of repressive laws\u2014including legis\u00adlation inspired by the Russian \u201cforeign agents\u201d model, American FARA, new media regula\u00adtions, and new laws curbing the human rights, including freedom of speech and assembly\u2014signals an open crackdown on civil society, media, political opposition, and pro-European voices. This backsliding threatens not only the country\u2019s democ\u00adratic fabric but also its European future. This also firmly places Georgia in the Russian orbit.<\/p>\n

In this critical moment, a group of leading Georgian civil society repre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtives will visit Brussels to brief key EU insti\u00adtu\u00adtions, political groups, and partners about the situation on the ground. The delegation, organized by the Center of Liberal Modernity brings together diverse expertise and networks, unified by a shared commitment to democ\u00adratic values and the defense of Georgia\u2019s European path.<\/p>\n

Purpose<\/strong><\/p>\n

The purpose of the visit is to provide EU stake\u00adholders with a timely and accurate briefing on the deepening political crisis in Georgia, marked by the ruling party\u2019s author\u00adi\u00adtarian drift and escalating repression against independent voices. The delegation will focus on the impli\u00adca\u00adtions of recently adopted draconian laws targeting civil society, media, and political opponents\u2014legislation that threatens to dismantle Georgia\u2019s democ\u00adratic founda\u00adtions and derail its European integration path.<\/p>\n
