Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and the current geopolitical changes have led to a new EU enlargement dynamics. The process of EU enlargement is caught between geopolitics, reform requirements and absorption capacity. At the beginning of the new institutional cycle at EU level, which began with the European elections in June, the focus is on the question of the future direction and concrete implementation of EU enlargement policy.

The Center for Liberal Modernity (LibMod) in cooperation with the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation (KAS) cordially invites you to join the discussion on the 13 November at the international conference “EU Enlargement in the Context of Geopolitics, Reform Requirements and Absorption Capacity”.

The following topics and questions will be discussed:

  • What are the current challenges of EU enlargement policy and what is at stake?
  • The perspectives of the representatives of the EU candidate countries on the implementation of reforms and gradual EU integration.
  • What is the EU’s strategy for the future shape of its enlargement policy and for its absorption capacity?

We would like to discuss this with representatives of the German Bundestag, the Federal Foreign Office, the European Commission and experts from the candidate countries, as well as with you.

The program for the event can be found at the link below. The conference will be held in a hybrid format and also streamed as a Zoom webinar, allowing participants to follow the discussions online.
