Pictures of the foundation stone ceremony for the Holocaust Memorial in Odesa
On 22 October, the foundation stone for a new memorial to the 1941 massacre was laid in Odesa. The future memorial is the result of an initiative of the Centre for Liberal Modernity and is funded by the German government.

Svitlana Fabrykant, deputy governor, spoke on behalf of the Odesa regional administration.
The Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Dr. Maria Flachsbarth, spoke via video message.
German Ambassador Anka Feldhusen gave her speech in fluent Ukrainian.
Speaking on behalf of Romania was Ambassador Alexandru Victor Micula, who is the Special Representative for Combating Anti-Semitism for the Romanian Foreign Ministry.
Ambassador Michaela Küchler, Special Representative for Relations with Jewish Organisations, Issues Relating to Antisemitism, International Sinti and Roma Affairs, and Holocaust Remembrance, spoke on behalf of the German Federal Foreign Office.
The Israeli Ambassador Michael Brodsky also addressed the guests via video message.
The last address was given by Roman Schwartsman, Holocaust survivor and chairman of the Regional Association of Jews and Former Prisoners of the Ghettos and Concentration Camps in Odesa.
In the end, Chief Rabbi Avroom Wolf said the Kaddish.

The capsule was placed under the foundation stone for the start of the construction of the memorial.
According to Jewish burial tradition, small stones were placed on the foundation stone.
