Amidst the situation in the Middle East, widely regarded as hopeless, representatives of Israeli and Palestinian civil society, as well as from the wider region, came together at the invitation of the Centre for Liberal Modernity to hold discussions and jointly seek political solutions to the Middle East conflict.

Following the Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October 2023 and the subsequent Gaza War, the conflicts with Lebanon and the war with Iran, the situation in the Middle East seemed almost hopeless. Nevertheless, at the invitation of the Centre for Liberal Modernity, stakeholders from Israeli and Palestinian civil society came together. They were supported by experts from Saudi Arabia and Egypt, as well as representatives from German think tanks. Together, they formed the ‘Middle East Network’ and discussed ways out of the spiral of escalation – based on the idea of a two-state solution and the question of what this might look like today. In this booklet, members of the network from the region present their proposals and specific recommendations.
